What is BalloonifyIQ?
BalloonifyIQ is a browser-based engineering drawing markup and ballooning tool for manufacturers, engineers and quality inspectors. Add numbered balloons to PDF drawings, capture every dimension and tolerance in a smart table, mark up prints with clouds, lines and notes, and export marked-up PDFs, dimension tables and inspection reports.
What is a ballooned drawing?
A ballooned drawing is an engineering drawing where every dimension, note and requirement has a numbered balloon next to it. The numbers match a characteristic list or inspection report, so each feature can be measured and recorded. BalloonifyIQ places the balloons and builds that list for you.
Can I mark up engineering drawings without installing software?
Yes. BalloonifyIQ runs entirely in your web browser — there's nothing to download or install. Open your PDF drawing, add balloons, clouds, lines and text notes, and export the marked-up PDF. It works in any modern browser; Chrome or Edge is recommended so SAVE can write straight back to your file.
Is BalloonifyIQ easy to use?
Yes. Getting around a drawing is intuitive and quick to learn: hold Shift and scroll the mouse wheel to zoom, or hold Shift and drag with the left mouse button to pan. Everything else is a click or a simple keyboard shortcut, and a detailed user manual covers every feature step by step.
How does BalloonifyIQ read dimensions from a drawing?

What types of drawings and documents can I use?
Load any PDF and annotate anything in it: mechanical parts, assemblies, GD&T drawings, machined and fabricated components, multi-page text documents, even scanned hand drawings. Multi-page PDF drawings and documents are fully supported.
Can I customize the smart dimension table?
Yes. Show or hide columns as you need them, reorder and resize them, and save the layout as your default. Pro and Enterprise plans (and free trials) can add up to 5 custom columns for text, formulas, or both — for example converting to metric or marking each dimension PASS or FAIL — and color rows with your own rules. Exports include exactly the columns you choose.
Can I save my annotations?
Yes. SAVE stores your balloons, smart table, notes and report data in a small .json file — keep it in the same folder as the drawing so everything for a job stays together. When you load it later, BalloonifyIQ names the matching PDF and asks you to select it, so you pick up right where you left off. To share your work, export the annotated drawing (PDF), the drawing with the smart table appended (PDF+TABLE), or the table as a .csv to bring drawing data into your own forms.
What is an AI read, and how many do I get?
An AI read is one dimension or text block read by OCR-AI. Standard includes 100 AI reads a month, Pro 300, and Enterprise 2,000 shared across your team. Reads with the built-in OCR-BIQ reader are unlimited on every plan and never count against your AI reads.
Are my drawings secure?
Yes. Your PDFs are processed in memory and never stored by BalloonifyIQ, and we never sell or share your data. The built-in OCR-BIQ reader keeps everything on BalloonifyIQ's own servers. The AI features (OCR-AI and AUTO) send only the cropped region or page image to OpenAI's API, which doesn't use it for training. For export-controlled or must-stay-in-house drawings, use OCR-BIQ.
